Sitka Technology Group is looking for an experienced proposal writer to join our team as an independent contractor/freelancer. The proposal writer will be instrumental in creating highly-competitive, winning proposals by working closely with Sitka staff to formulate our proposal strategy, gather and format information, write drafts, obtain approvals, and submit the official response.

This role will use a variety of resources to accomplish these tasks, including product expert interviews, marketing and sales collateral, proposal templates, past proposals, industry websites, bid service, and other available resources. The proposal writer will work closely with senior management who are key team members responsible for delivering the commitments outlined in the response.

We don’t expect this role to create great proposals on their own but rather be a key facilitator who will leverage in-house domain expertise from other team members. There is potential for this role to transition into a full or part-time position in the future.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate RFPs to effectively craft a proposal strategy
  • Communicate opportunities as well as risks identified in the RFP
  • Schedule and facilitate proposal strategy meetings
  • Collect and submit proposal questions and synthesize answers from the issuer
  • Establish and meet deadlines for each step of the proposal process
  • Collaborate to assemble information required in the response
  • Ensure quality results by using templates and following proposal-writing standards
  • Establish a protocol for crafting effective proposal responses
  • Monitor government bid databases for potential opportunities
  • Evaluate and summarize strengths and weaknesses of competitor proposals when available

Requirements/Qualifications

  1. At least 5 years of experience writing business proposals for professional services opportunities
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  3. Writing style is engaging and effective at communicating key points
  4. Technical writing experience
  5. Skilled at communicating complex technical concepts in an easy to understand manner
  6. Expert Microsoft Word skills
  7. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  8. Exquisite attention to detail
  9. Self-starter with ability to work independently while meeting all deadlines
  10. Results-oriented
  11. Strong project management skills
  12. Past experience with GovWin or similar bid service preferred
